SBFM

SBFM cleaning academy
We’ve officially launched the SBFM Cleaning Academy at HM Prison Wealstun – a major step forward in our mission to create meaningful second chances through employment.

As the only facilities management provider enrolled on the Ministry of Justice’s HMP Academies Programme, we’re proud to be delivering accredited training that directly supports rehabilitation, reduces reoffending, and builds a stronger, more inclusive workforce.

A Purpose-Built Training Environment
The academy features a fully interactive, real-world training environment that replicates the settings our people work in – from cinemas and hotels to offices, bathrooms and warehouse facilities. The immersive setup allows individuals to experience the realities of FM cleaning work in a space built specifically for learning.

From Training to Employment
The programme supports nine cohorts per year, working with individuals just three months ahead of their release. In partnership with the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), participants gain an industry-recognised qualification in professional cleaning, alongside vital life and employability skills including English, maths, CV writing, and interview preparation.

At the end of each course, our recruitment team conducts formal interviews with all participants. We’re committed to offering employment to successful candidates – with a target to hire at least 30% of graduates over the next three years.

Part of Our Evolve Initiative
The cleaning academy is part of our broader Evolve programme – a flagship social impact initiative launched in 2022, which aims to remove barriers to employment for disadvantaged groups.

Through Evolve, we’ve already supported over 2,000 individuals, working in collaboration with more than 40 partners, including charities, clients, and employment organisations.

A Stronger Workforce. A Fairer Future.
This initiative is about more than employment – it’s about transforming futures. By equipping individuals with real skills and real opportunities, we’re helping people move forward with purpose and possibility.

We’re proud to be building a more inclusive workforce – one opportunity at a time.

“This workshop represents a significant milestone in our commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for those in need of a second chance. By expanding our Evolve scheme through this partnership with HMP Wealstun, we’re not just teaching cleaning skills – we’re rebuilding lives and contributing to safer communities through reduced reoffending rates.”
