Members of the SBFM team will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday, 9th July, in order to raise money for Against Breast Cancer and the critical research they are conducting into triple-negative breast cancer.
A team of hardy hikers from our Leeds headquarters will tackle the gruelling 24-mile circular route to the summit of all three Yorkshire Dales National Park peaks, with an aim of raising £5,000 to support the amazing work that the charity does to support those going through this rare form of breast cancer.
Against Breast Cancer funds pioneering research into new treatments, tools for earlier diagnosis and advice to reduce the risk of recurrence and secondary spread. Working with expert scientists the charity wants to increase the survival rates of all breast cancer patients and ultimately, discover a vaccine against breast cancer.
The challenge is inspired by SBFM Group HR Director Helen Nicholson, who was diagnosed with TNBC in 2021 and underwent cancer treatment while still working at our Leeds HQ.
Our team, which includes senior directors and staff from operations, HR, finance, recruitment, sales and marketing, amongst others, is attempting to conquer the iconic three peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours.
The challenging 1,585m ascent is inspired by SBFM Group HR Director Helen Nicholson, who was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2021 and continues to undergo treatment while still working at our Leeds HQ.
Colin Shute, Group CEO at SBFM, said: “The SBFM team is extremely excited to embark on this, our latest charity challenge, and one that is certainly close to our hearts. Helen has been an inspiration to us all, showing unwavering bravery and resolve as she undergoes treatment while still coming into work every day with a smile on her face.
“When we heard about Helen’s diagnosis, we wanted to do something to show our support and raise much needed funds for a charity that has really struggled over the last 18 months during the pandemic.
“We have set an ambitious target of £5,000 and would love to be able to meet and hopefully exceed that figure. With many fitness enthusiasts in our team, from long-distance runners to endurance cyclists and gym rats, we are already training hard and looking forward to this challenge in Yorkshire’s great scenery.”
