Our Learn @ Lunch session brought powerful reflections, meaningful conversations, and a shared sense of connection as colleagues came together to celebrate Black History Month.
Our CEO, Matt Chapman, and Operations Director, Nana Osei, led an inspiring discussion exploring leadership, identity, and legacy.
Matt reflected on how people of colour throughout history have used their voices and platforms to drive change – from Billie Holiday’s haunting protest song Strange Fruit to the leadership and courage of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He spoke about how these individuals challenged injustice, inspired hope, and helped shape a fairer society, with an impact that continues to resonate today. Matt encouraged everyone to do the same: to use your platform wisely and stand for something that matters.
Nana shared his own story of resilience, ambition, and purpose, speaking about the importance of dreaming big and staying determined even in the face of challenges. He reflected on how his journey has been guided by a desire to create a positive impact – not only for those around him but for the next generation who will follow in his footsteps.
Together, their stories of cultural pride, perseverance, and leadership brought this year’s Black History Month theme, “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” to life in a meaningful and deeply personal way.
We also marked the occasion by enjoying traditional Caribbean food together, creating space to connect, reflect, and celebrate. The room was filled with thoughtful discussion, shared learning, and a collective commitment to continue championing inclusion and understanding across SBFM.
Thank you to everyone who joined, asked questions, and contributed to such an open and engaging conversation. By continuing to learn from one another, we strengthen our community and live out our value to Play As A Team – celebrating the diversity that makes SBFM stronger.
